96. 4 Marketing Must Haves

What’s Inside

1. 4 Marketing Must Haves

Over past few months, we've focused on driving growth across 6 pillars.

We are in the final stretch with — Marketing & Communications.

For professional services firms, marketing is not sales.

Marketing attracts.

Business development creates the opportunity to close.

Sales closes.

Although distinct, the three are deeply intertwined like a tapestry, and each plays an important role in cultivating growth.

A law firm client and I discussed this framework at length over Q1.

And, as they implement Business Development and marketing strategies in tandem, they are already seeing growth in Q2.

Here are 4 marketing must haves —

1) Perform Digital Audit – A polished online professional presence is critical. One client was leading a new organization but her LinkedIn profile still showed a former leadership position. Another client was leading a law firm's practice area, but it was not clear on the firm's website. Ensure different channels are up-to-date and aligned to build recognition and trust among clients and peers.

2) Develop Your Personal Brand – Clearly define your niche, core skills, and unique value to stand out in a competitive market. Establish your tone and voice and build trust through thought leadership like publishing articles, podcasts, and industry talks to strengthen credibility and share expertise.

3) Create Content Plan & Schedule – Marketing is a marathon not a sprint. Most marathon runners don't run a race cold. They have a detailed training plan that they follow over the course of months and years. Similarly, don't wing marketing thinking, "What should I write about today?" Create a content plan and schedule to highlight key areas of your expertise and share knowledge.

4) Follow Through – A marketing plan, like a growth strategy, is just the start. You have to actually do it. And, as leads materialize, follow up & follow through.

How can you improve marketing to grow your firm's bottom line?
